The transition to adulthood is hard. Everyone expects you to have it together, but no one actually taught you how to do this.
You don't have to navigate it alone.

Hi, I'm Brooke. I'm the owner and founder of Light Minds Child and Family Therapy, and I have over ten years of experience supporting young people through life's challenges.

I work with young adults because I understand this life stage. I'm not going to treat you like a kid, and I'm not going to assume I know what's best for you. I see us as partners in this process, collaborating to figure out what's getting in your way and how to move forward.

Life Transitions

Graduating, starting a first job, moving out, losing a relationship that defined your twenties. If you're figuring out life after college or adjusting to a world that suddenly expects you to have answers, I help you find your footing without the pressure to have it all figured out.

Depression

You've lost interest in things that used to matter. Getting out of bed feels pointless. Everything takes more effort than it should. I help young adults work through what's underneath the low mood and reconnect with motivation and direction.

Relationships & Connection

Repeating the same patterns in friendships or dating. Saying yes when you mean no. Not knowing what a healthy relationship actually looks like. I help young adults build stronger connections and set boundaries that actually stick.

Perfectionism

Nothing you do feels good enough. You procrastinate because starting means risking failure. The standards you hold yourself to are impossible, but lowering them feels like giving up. I help you loosen that grip and build a healthier relationship with yourself.

Social Anxiety

Dreading parties, avoiding networking, rehearsing conversations in your head for hours afterward. The fear of being judged can make you shrink your life down to what feels safe. I help you build real confidence in social situations, not just push through them.

Career Uncertainty

Everyone seems to know what they want to do except you. Or you chose a path and now it feels wrong. Therapy for young adults often starts here, with the pressure to pick a direction when you're still figuring out what you actually care about. We work through the paralysis so you can move forward.

Burnout

You're 22 and already exhausted. School, work, side hustles, social obligations, the pressure to be productive every waking moment. I help you figure out what's draining you, what actually matters, and how to build a life that doesn't require running on empty.

Your Journey

What Therapy Looks Like for Young Adults

A young woman with wavy hair wearing a green cardigan, gray shirt, and black jeans, sitting on a wooden bench outside a cafe, holding a mug, smiling and looking to the side, with a backpack on the ground nearby. In the background, people are dining outdoors, and a sign reads 'The Daily Grind'.

We Start with a Real Conversation

Your free consultation is a chance to share what's going on and see if we click. I want you to feel comfortable, not like you're being evaluated.

A person hiking on a dirt trail through a vast open plain with mountains in the background and clouds in the sky.

You're in the Driver's Seat

This is your therapy. We'll focus on what matters to you, not what your parents think you should work on or what you think you 'should' care about.

A tidy wooden desk with a laptop, a potted succulent, a notebook with pens, a mug of coffee, a pair of headphones, and books about psychology, next to a corkboard with photos and a glass of fairy lights near a window.

Telehealth Session

We'll meet weekly or biweekly via secure video. Telehealth fits into your life wherever you are: dorm room, apartment, or your childhood bedroom.

what sets us apart

why choose Light Minds?

I Get This Stage of Life

I work with young adults regularly and understand the pressures of this in-between phase: navigating independence, identity, career decisions, and relationships while still figuring out who you are. You're not a kid, but "adult" doesn't quite fit either. If you're in the middle of a quarter-life crisis, you're not alone. It's one of the most common reasons young adults reach out.

Your Therapy, Your Terms

As an adult, your therapy is completely confidential. You decide if and how your parents are involved. Some young adults choose to include family at times; others prefer to work independently. Either way, you're in control.

Practical & Action-Oriented

I'm not going to just listen for 50 minutes. I'll help you understand what's keeping you stuck and give you concrete strategies to move forward. Tools you can use between sessions, not just insights that fade by the next day.

Your Questions, Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

  • As a young adult therapist in Los Angeles, I focus on the challenges specific to ages 18-26: navigating independence, career decisions, adult relationships, and identity formation outside of parental supervision. The approach respects your autonomy as an adult.

  • As an adult (18+), your therapy is completely confidential. You decide if and how your parents are involved. Some young adults choose to include family at times; others prefer to work independently. If your parents want their own support, I also offer parent coaching.

  • That's okay, and actually pretty common. We can start with what's bothering you most and figure it out together. You don't need to have clear goals to start therapy.

  • Most clients start with weekly sessions and move to biweekly as they progress. We'll find a rhythm that works for your schedule and needs.

  • Light Minds is an out-of-network provider. I provide superbills you can submit to your PPO for potential reimbursement.
